Adoption

About Adoption

Adopting a Greyhound will change your life. They are an affectionate, well mannered and adaptable breed. That being said, no two dogs are alike. We endevour to ensure that we match each person or family to their most suited dog. Whilst this may mean that you have to wait a bit longer, its reduces the likelihood that the dog will be returned at then end of trial period and ensures a smooth transition for dog and adopter.

How to Adopt

If you are interested in adopting one of our retired greyhounds you will firstly need to complete our online Adoption Application. The application gives us an idea of your lifestyle, expectations and  accommodations for the Greyhound. This helps us find your perfect match.

Once the Adoption Application is processed and you are approved, we will contact you to arrange a suitable time to meet prospective matches. This allows you to meet the dog to ensure it’s compatible with your lifestyle and family. Be sure to bring along ALL family members (including children and dogs) who will be interacting with the Greyhound.

If you meet the Greyhound you would like to join your household, the next step is to complete an Adoption Contract and make payment for the greyhound. Arrangements will then be made for you to take home your new family member on a four week trial.

If you do not meet a suitable dog, you will be placed on a waiting list until the right Greyhound arrives. Meeting a preference for a certain colour or characteristic, such as being cat friendly, usually takes longer.

Still not sure, why not foster ?

Foster care is another option if you are looking at adopting a dog but are unsure if a Greyhound is right for you. In this scenario, you temporarily care for the dog until it finds its forever home. If you fall in love with the dog and want to keep it (and we think you will), no problem. And if it doesn’t work out, that’s OK too, you’ve still helped that dog on its way to finding its perfect home.
